Using images in an item

print

There are three ways to make an image visible to users:

1. Placing the image inside of the text field of an item.
2. Placing the image as a separate item.
3. Placing the image as an attachment to an item (Add an attachment? click here…).

How to Place the image inside the text field of an item.

Placing the image inside the text field of an item, navigate to acourse in which you are Instructor or TA.
In the menu that contains “Content”, (In our example this is “Documenten”)

Hover over the “Build Content” button and click [Item] in the section [Create].

    • Under “Content Information”, enter a subject next to “Name”.
    • At “Color of Name”, pick a color for displaying the name and click [Apply].
    • In the “VisualEditor”, click the icon [Attach Image].

Before inserting the image (If you already have a text or other “content” within your editor), first click once on the location where you want to add the image within the textfield.

  • A new window will be opened. There are three ways to add an image, depending on the source location:
  • Your own computer. In that case, click [Browse My Computer] to add the image.
  • The Content Collection of your Blackboardenvironment. In that case, click [Browse Content Collection].
  • A location on the internet. In that case, click [Source URL]and insert the URL into the field [Specify Source URL].
  • With all options, a new window will be opened. At “Title“, enter the name of the item as it should appear to users. You can configure the width and height of the image, and you can add a border, or change the alignment of the Image. Subsequently, click [Insert] and add a name to your “Item” if you haven’t done so already, now click [Submit] once more. (Your photo is now added to the Item)

Placing the image as a separate item.

Navigate to acourse in which you are Instructor or TA. In the menu that contains “Content”, (In our example this is “Documenten”)

Hover over the “Build Content” button and click [Image] in the section [Create].

  • There are two ways to add an image at [Select Image File], depending on the source location:
  • Your own computer. In that case, click [Browse My Computer] to add the image and select the file.
  • The Content Collection of yourBlackboard environment. In that case, click [Browse Content Collection].For both options mentioned above, the following applies:
  • Under “Name“, enter the name of the item.
  • At “Color of Name“, pick a color for displaying the name and click [Apply].
  • If necessary, enter supplementarytext into the field [Long Desciption].Under “Image Options” for dimensions you can choose “Custom”, add a border, and configure whether to launch the item in a new window.
  • Under “Standard Options”, indicate:
  • Whether the item should be available to users. If so, select [Yes] next to “Permit Users to View this Content”.
  • Whether the number of times the item is consulted should be tracked. If so, select [Yes] next to “Track Number of Views”.
  • After and until what date and time the item should be available to users.
  • Click [Submit] to place the item.

    Note:
You can only add an item when the “Edit Mode” is [On].
If you configure an end time for the availability of the item, it is not visible to users after that end time, but is still visible for the Instructors, Teachers, Course Builders and Teaching Assistants.
